CRITERIA AND PROCESS FOR ART SELECTION

The criteria and process for art selection will involve two Missoula organizations—Sculpture Missoula and the Missoula City Public Art Committee (PAC).

Solicitation and Submissions:  CallforEntry (café.org) will be used for all submissions, with a deadline date for submissions established. It is anticipated that solicitations will  occur once per year in early winter. Artists must submit multiple digital photographs of unique, well-crafted art together with a resume and brief statement about their sculpture. Weight, price, materials used, and all display and installation requirements must be included. Artists will be notified of decisions and date for delivery established. Once accepted, the artist is responsible for the execution of the work and transportation of the sculpture to the park. Contracts must be in place prior to delivery (sample contract can be provided).

SELECTION CRITERIA

All artwork must be safe for pedestrians, able to withstand high winds and temperature changes, easy to maintain in an outdoor mountain environment and be able to be attached to pedestals (unless prior approval has been granted for a different installation process). Artists are responsible to place a sealant on their piece that will discourage tagging and graffiti. All pieces will be ADA compliant and safe to touch. Sculpture Missoula and PAC will ensure non-discrimination policies are employed during selection and will strive for gender, racial and ethnic equity. No pieces that advocate for religious or political organizations or causes will be considered.

Installation

The PAC and the Missoula Parks and Recreation Board reserve the right to make all installation and placement decisions. Artists will be encouraged to be present during installation. Installation procedures will involve several steps. All sculptures will have a metal plate attached to the bottom of the sculpture (done by artist and required). The concrete slab or pedestal will also have a metal plate attached and the two metal plates will then be spot welded for security.
